Friday 5

WWW.FRIDAY 5.ORG

What is the longest distance you’ve traveled (in one trip) by foot?
7 miles.  In Edinburgh, one January.  It started snowing. I had never experienced snow like this in my life.  I live on the Clyde Coast, warmed (ha ha) by the gulf stream.  Snow is rare and when it does, short lived. I stayed 2 miles from the college, and contemplated walking but thought better of it.  It was 1/2 mile up a hill, 1/4 down, and then another 1/2 mile up.  Too far in the snow.  I waited for the bus. I waited an hour. It never arrived. I decided to get on the first bus and just juggle buses.  The bus took me to Lothian road -7 miles from my house.  And the bus driver announced the company were taking the buses off the road.  I nearly wept as I walked the 7 miles in a foot of snow and blizzard conditions.

What is the longest trip you’ve taken by car?

1200 miles.  We drove from our home, in Ayrshire, to Dover.  We drove over night after a full day at work.  My husband and I alternated the driving to try and keep awake.   When we got off the ferry, we drove the same distance again across France.  At one stage, the children asked "are we just driving the whole holiday?".

What is the longest trip you’ve taken by plane?

New York.  That was enough. On the return Both children took ill, 20 minutes into the flight.   I spend the whole trip sitting between them, covered in vomit, switching sick bags to black bin bags.  It got worse, because the air craft held all the passengers until we had been removed from the plane by the AMBULANCE!!!

What is the longest trip you’ve taken on some kind of water craft?

Dover to Calais.... But maybe actually Ardrossan to the Isle of Man.  Ardrossan to the Isle of Man is a bit scary actually, because it was 6 hours, most of which was spent in the bar, by the time we disembarked we were paralytic!

What is the longest trip you’ve taken aboard a bus or train?

The circuit bus No 52 In Edinburgh.  2½ hours of sheer hell.  It drove around the outskirts of Edinburgh, taking in the worst places in the city.  At times we were actually sore afraid!

Why, what?

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?24, Old enough to be my children's parent but young enough to be full of fun and daftness.

Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying.  Feel the Fear and Do it anyway, that's what the book says.  Please note: I've never read the book, maybe the book actually asks you not to do it, and it's a sarcastic comment.  But I like to think, there is no shame in failing, only shame in not trying at all. If you want something bad enough...

If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
I've stopped doing things I don't like.  I only do things I like to do, and things I'm not fussy about, if they are a means to an end.  Good job I actually like my job eh?

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done? oh god yes, I talk far too much!

What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
I would stop all these flipping hypocrytical stars telling me to feed the world, and stop starvation, and save the planet, and tell them to get their hand in their pocket and do it first!

If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Serving in my own bar, where only nice people were allowed, and the kitchen never made any mistakes with the food, and the booze although cheap and plentiful did not cause angry drunks.

Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
Am settling for what I am doing, until I have repaid enough debt to do what I believe!

If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Wouldn't change a thing..... I have the man I love, two great kids, and a good job!   I might try to get to France more often!

To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? Very much.  I do what I want, go where I want, and Love the man I choose!

Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? doing the right things!  I'm a bit slip shoddy, I do lots of things, quite well, but I do the right things, as opposed to the wrong ones! Karma and all that!

Blipping Heck

I blog on www.blipfoto.com/dogwithnobrain

I started on this site, in february last year.  Rules are, One Photograph, per day! It can be about your photography, it can be about your writing, but It's a disciplined approach to keeping a log.

I hit 500 blips yesterday! I couldn't believe it!  My blip has had 320 hits, and I've accumulated 125 comments over the courseof yesterday and today!

For years i've tried to keep a diary - you can see here, I come and go, but with the exception of one day, and it was excusable, I've blipped every single day.  Wow!

Terrible Tuesday

Husband has been gone since Saturday AM.  Wasn't actually here in mind for the week before, he was awfully preoccupied with this trip.

Am feeling like am missing my leg. or my arm, or half my lung.  I have no one to tease.  No one to talk to.   No one to whisper to in bed.

:-(

Hurry home.

Mindful Monday....

Is it really, or just a bloggers bland banner for Mundane Mondays, for which there are no Other obvious titles to use for a days diary.

Here's my thoughts for Mindful Monday.

Am bloody tired.   I have had two crap nights sleep, Saturday because I was sunstroked, and Sunday because I was alone.  I was alone on Saturday night too, but I was more concerned with the burning sensation all over my body, than the lack of someone to moan too.

As a result I am sitting here at work, eyes, closing every so many seconds, as I try to stay awake and focused and not falling asleep.

Sunday Stole!

http://sundaystealing.blogspot.com/

1. Last movie you saw in a theater?   Shamefully, Harry Potter, The first part of the last one.  I hate cinemas.... Well I hate the people in Cinemas.  I love cinemas, I just hate there being other people than me in them.

2. What book are you reading?
My Bookywook By Russell Brand.  Well I say read. I read the first Chapter yesterday. I also read the first 4 chapters of a ghost story, and I'm 1/8th of the way through another book.  I can't sit still long enough these days to read for very long.  My mind isn't calm enough.

3. Favorite board game?  Scrabble. Am pretty rubbish at it, but don't give in, never surrender.  My mum bought me a "Scrabble Cheat" book, so that I at least stood a chance sometimes.

4. Favorite magazine?
It has changed recently to Prima. Although I was reading Primas which were about 2 years old.  They have recipes, tips and clothes patterns inside them.  I love them.
5. Favorite smells?
Issy Mayake L'eau D'issy; DKNY Pure; Viktor and Rolph Flowerbomb; Cut Grass, bonfires. My husband's neck as I snuzzle in at night.

6. Favorite sounds?
Meesak.  Loud, bumping meesak.  Currently CeeLoo.   And always, Roddy Frame!
7. Worst feeling in the world?      Stinky Migraine.  I suffer quite frequently.  Not nice.

8. What is the first thing you think of when you wake up?

What day is it?

9. Favorite fast food place?
I had to think about this, and in reality, I don't think I have one.  There used to be a Spaghetti House in Glasgow or the Italian in Dunfermline who let us carry out (fellow restauranteurs are quite obliging), I loved sitting eating my creamy pastas at home, out of silver tubs, after a long hard day on my feet.

10. What’s under your bed?
Boy's exercise thingy.  Too big for any other room, after we moved Tooli into his room when he moved to Yank City.

11. Finish this statement. “If I had lot of money I’d….?
Buy my son a flat in Mount Olive, my daughter a flat in Cambridge, and I'd take my honey to a desert Island, Mystique.... Is it still about?  Or the one that Richard Branson owns!  Again - Don't like people.

12. Do you sleep with a stuffed animal?

I would never refer to my husband as either stuffed, nor an animal.

13. Storms – cool or scary?  Cool. the coolest. I would love to be a storm chaser, if I could be sure I'd find a bridge to hide under when it swept over the top.

14. Favorite drink?  Now there's a question.  Wild Turkey?  Jack Daniels?  Strawberry Cosmo - but only when drunk in the bar at Lido?  Cup of tea?  cup of Coffee?  Cool glass of milk.  Jack D and Ginger Ale I say!

15. Finish this statement, “If I had the time I would….”?   Go to a health spa and be forced to loose loads of weight and get fit.

16  If you had to dye your hair another color, what would be your choice?   A Natural brown.  My normal, young hair was reddish brown.  Now, I am scared that if I stopped dying it, it would be grey, all over.

17. Favorite place to relax?
Anywhere that I can place my head on one side and sleep.  I am a sleep monster.

18. Name all the different cities/towns you’ve lived in?

Troon, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverkeithing, Glasgow, Symington, Troon.

19. Favorite sports to watch?   Volleyball. I have two Volleyball daft kids.  Volleyball is their "thing". It would be criminal not to love to watch them!

20. Would you like to be born as yourself again?
Yes, indeedy.  Even with the bad things, my life has been grand, and I'd get to do it all over again which wouldn't be a bad thing!
