It's a Cold, Cold Country

Relief all round when I managed to get in touch with the energy supplier yesterday and sort out my number dyslexia which seen my Energy consumption for the month triple from the month before.... they didn't question it, they just upped my monthly payment, by three.... I didn't question that, I just thought it was as a result of their prices increasing.

So laughs all round at both of our incompetence.

Is freezing this morning, but having analysed the bills so intently over the last couple of days, I'll be damned if I'm going to put the heating on in the morning.

My Best Holiday

My Menorca Villa are running a competition to find the winner of the "My Best Holiday" competition... it got me thinking, which was my best holiday?

The last holiday I spent with my Mum and Dad could arguably be my best holiday.  It started off as what I thought was going to be my worst nightmare.

"We've booked one last holiday for you to come with me and your dad", said mum.  "two weeks in a hotel in Menorca - a room for three".  At 17 the very prospect of two weeks in a tightly enclosed place with both my parents was the stuff of nightmares!

Mum worked part-time in a little travel agents and had gone to great lengths to book the cheapest flights, and phoned the hotel personally to organise it.   We set off on the day, my heart was half happy at the prospect of sun, half terrified at having to share with both parents....   The plane was delayed by 3 hours.  Good Start.  When we arrived, of course we had no agents to direct us to buses to get us to the hotel... We got in a taxi and my Dad spoke in the Local Tongue to get us to Punta Prima.... by local tongue, I mean his version, shouting at 10 decibels louder  that required in broken English.  The taxi driver looked in his mirror and raised his eye brows.   I looked out the window and wished I was somewhere else.

When we arrived, we were so late, the hotel had decided that we weren't coming and had let our room to someone else.   They had no other rooms.  We looked so dejected they started to phone round and find something for us; but then the manager appeared and advised that due to their error, he had found something that we hoped would be suitable.   He walked us a little way across the road from the hotel, and into a beautiful lush garden, he guided us to the side of a building and up a flight of stairs, dripping in clematis... and honeysuckle.  And opened the door to the two bedroomed villa which he "hope would suffice" for the holiday.

Suffice?  This was luxury beyond anything we could have dreamed of.  There were balconies running round the whole building, there were two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining room, and our own bathroom.    We tried to look "slightly" disappointed at not being in the hotel.... and waited until he was gone and then jumped around like children.

The rest of the holiday was a dream, a wander to the hotel for coffee and bread in the morning, a walk onto the beach for some sun and some swimming.  Lunch on the beach side restaurant which played "J'taime" on a regular repeat.

An afternoon siesta, a wander to the hotel for evening meal, and drinks on the balcony listening to the crickets in the garden.

A great holiday, and great memories of time with mum and dad.

Sunday Stealing......

1. Where was your profile picture taken?   My profile picture is Dogwithnobrain.... Dylan, long gone from us, was a lovely, lovely doggie, with very little, in fact, absolutely no brain. 2. Name someone who made you laugh today.  Vic Reeves.  Well Jim Moir actually.  Jim being the person behind the creation of Vic Reeves.   He has always made me giggle in the way that Eric Morecambe did - I think he is cut from the same jib.  I watched Hebburn, and he did make me laugh, and then I cried.  I did actually cry.

Have you felt that life is like being on a roller coaster?
As Ronan once sung..... Life is a Roller Coaster, Just Gotta Ride it.  I   See no real similarity between life and roller coasters.  I don't have to examine every single experience in life, six times before i embark upon an effort.  I don't feel sick to my stomach as I reach a crescendo, nor to I pee myself at each corner.

Favorite year so far?

1
986, I met my husband.  The music was grand, it was the 80's, I was a student. Life couldn't get better, and was no where like any fairground ride.

Do you consider yourself religious?
Mmm, there is a point.  I say not. I don't believe in the "gods" to whom all religion is accredited. How can one religion be "the god", and another not be the god?   I think there is a greater power, probably tucked inside the mother ship.  Like Spock, Or Captain Picard.  Oh Yes.

Have you ever been to Connecticut?
I'm not from America, I'm not even sure where Conneticut is.  My son is at Uni in America - He is in North Carolina.  Is that near Connecticut?   Dearie me.  I've been to Coatbridge.  is that the same as Connecticut in terms of Scotland?  Coatbridge is quite scary.

Do you eat sushi?
You know, I have once or twice, and there were bits that I really enjoyed, and bits that i didn't enjoy at all.   I liked the rice, and the sesame seeds, and the seaweed covers, but know what?  I wasn't that fussy about the fish.

Would you smoke pot providing there was no risk or driving involved?    Oh yes indeedy.  I'm very sad that Amsterdam has decided not to sell dope to tourists any more... because it's always been on my list of things to do, to go to Amsterdam and try some druggies.

What do you think of Idol Winner ......?? Again, I don't know who this is. Don't watch it, I think the Idol winner here... Oh no, we don't have Pop Idol, we have X-Factor....   And the X-Factor winner was mmmmmm let me think.  Little Mix, Little MInx?   Something like that. 4 little girlies.

Do you believe that animals have souls? Yes I do.  They have the souls of people who have passed on.... and stay around to keep you happy!  My dad is in a Buzzard!

Who did you last talk to? Share, if you dare.
My Husband and Daughter, my constant companions.

What is one thing that always annoys you?   Liars.

Do you believe in a higher being?   You asked me that Already. Spock.

Have you ever fallen in love with a neighbor?   No, but I had a neighbour in Edinburgh who developed a penchant for weeding, and gardening all the time, when he realised I had moved in.

Any plans for this weekend?
The weekend is gone..... Next week is a whole new adventure.

Would you like to rule your country, if you could?  Yeah, but only in conjunction with other people.   Gareth Malone for starters, so that he could teach everyone to sing, and we would started every day with a song.

Do you like watching films about the nature of animals?   Yes, indeedy.  I was watching bears and tigers cubs only last week.

What's the difference between lust and/or lust? Lust and Love?  Lust and Lust....   No difference.... Lust and Lust.. I don't know.  Isn't it the same?   Lust and Love.  I love my husband, I lust after him.  But it's not quite the same thing.

Do you have a soul?
I do, and I am exceptionally fortunate that I have a good soul.  I want to make people happy, and be happy.

One best friend or many good friends? One very, very best friend.... my husband above.  I'm also blessed with being friends with my children and my mum and my aunty, and have good friends I went to school with, and worked with.

Do you believe in spontaneous combustion? Shit yes!   It was my fear when I was little.  Between that, and  nuclear war, I actually believed that I might explode from combustion before a nuclear war.

Sunday Stealing, on a Monday Evening

Have you ever peed your pants as an adult?   Yes, I have.  I’ve had two children, I have asthma, weak pelvic floor, combined with severe coughing has caught me short a couple of times -  Not in need of Tena lady; I’ve been practising my pelvic floor exercises.

Who do you have a celebrity crush on now?
Celebrity crush.  There is a question.  If Gary Barlow was to sing to me, I would float away on a cloud.  If Gary Barlow was to sit down and talk to me, I’d run away.  I love his music, I could listen to him sing, but when he starts with that Brummie accent.  Dearie me.

Would you date someone you met online?
No I don’t think so.  My friend married someone she met on line, not for love, but for comfort.   Another friend went on several blind dates with men she met on dating sites, and to be honest, I’m surprised she kept on with it.

Do you wear underwear always?  No I don’t.  Sometimes I quite like no panties.  NVP you know.  Bra – well the size of mine I need something to keep them under control.
Do you hate yourself at times?  I hate myself right now.  I’ve not been feeling well, and I’m not coping with normality and shouting a bit.

Do you like dirty movies?
How dirty?  I’ve seen a few horrific ones, and see some which were laughable.  But none that have really set me thinking, “this is a genre I could really get into”.

Could you believe Josha Ledet was voted off Idol?   I need to change this.  Not being State Side, I have to say  “Can I believe that someone was voted off “The Voice”, and I’d have to answer, Who?   I start watching these programmes, and then drift off into unconsciousness.  Boring.

When was the last time that you bought a car?  Bought a car.  How about “got”.
Have you ever been camping?
Camping??? I am married to a Boy Scout.  We live in a Tent.   Well, actually that is a big fat lie.  We don’t, but we do camp, and I adore it.  The cold, the hard floors, the rain on the canvas.  It’s all amazing.

How many times a day do you go on facebook?
As many times as I can get away with without being fired.

What was the last movie you saw in a theater?
Christ, I can’t remember….. Harry Potter, the last one?

Have you ever worried that you'd cut off a limb?
Yeah, the last time I was rock climbing in the Grand Canyon. I got stuck between a rock and a hard place, and thought after 4 days I was going to have to cut my hand off to escape, but then I woke up.

Where did you get your last email from?
Some competition website, I enter competitions til I get sick of typing…..

Favorite website?
Blipfoto, second only to Sunday Stealing.

Are you down with ghetto?
Am so far down in the ghetto, I can’t find my way back.

Will the world end in fire or ice?
Ice, I think, but then the atmosphere will rebalance, and life will begin again.

Do you believe in the afterlife?
I do. I watched Colin Fry this afternoon, or was it John someone…. Who ever it was,  he insisted he was talking to spirits.  And they were all in the afterlife, and not in the drinks cabinet.

Would you be upset if facebook stopped working?
Would I be upset?  I’d be distraught.  No actually, I think I would be fine. I wish someone would break it, and then I’d have more time to do my work.

How did you start your blog?
I used to have my own website.  www.mid-life-me.com,  and I  got bored, and came over here, and it gives me the opportunity to create and revise when ever I felt like it, and then I got bored again, and then I found Sunday Stealing…… and started up again.

Sometimes, It's Hard to be A woman.

I felt the urge to write tonight.

I haven't been feeling well for a couple of weeks.  It started with a cough, and developed into pain in my chest.  I got an emergency appointment and was prescribed anti-biotics.  I took the anti-biotics, and took a Friday afternoon off.   I went back to work on Monday, and felt okay. By Wednesday, I was coughing again, worse than before.

I called the Doctor, and asked for another prescription.  He prescribed me different anti-biotics and I started them.  Friday morning- a week after my half day, I was back in bed again.

I've been poopy all weekend, and now It's Monday, and I was in bed still.   I think I'll go back to work tomorrow, but I'm not right.    I have an appointment on Friday for the doctors, andn I've also got an appointment for the nurse, for my asthma check up, and a bloody smear.  Shit It's great to be a girl!

Cheers to all of us thieves!

In your opinion, what makes a great relationship?
Friendship.  Love and Friendship.  Trust, Love, and Friendship.  Respect, Trust, Love and Friendship. Laughter, Respect, Trust, Love and Friendship.  But most of all, Friendship.

How did someone win your heart?
He held my heart with care, and laughed with me and not at me, and he promised forever, and I believed him.

In your world, what brings on more creativity?
Music.  Am inspired by songs.

What is the single best decision you have made in your life so far?
Every decision I have made has been a good one, I can’t say which was the best, til I get to the end.

Why did you break up with your last ex?
So long ago… I can’t remember.  I was in a phone box, I hung up on him, I can’t remember why.  But that, was the end.

What would you want to be written on your tombstone?
Love, Trust and Friendship.

What is your favorite word?
faith

Give me the first thing that comes to mind when you hear the word: delusional.
Some folk that I have known.  Very delusional.

What is a saying you use a lot?
For Sure.  Are You Sure?

Are you watching Idol this season? If yes, how do you like it?
Nope. It does my head in.

Were you surprised that House got cancelled?
No, it’s been on for ages.  It had a good run. There were better programmes cut after a shorter run.

What is your current desktop picture?
A morning picture I took from the top of a hill.  All mist and gorgeousness.

If you could press a button and make anyone in the world instantaneously explode, who would it be?
Parliament, in the UK.   Does my head in.  Needs people who want to work for the people, and no people who just want to be big shots.

What would be a question where you'd not tell the truth?
How old are you?

One night you wake up because you heard a noise. You turn on the light to find that you are surrounded by WEEPING ANGELS. The Weeping Angles aren't really doing anything, they're just standing around your bed. What would you do?
I wouldn’t blink, not ever blink.

You accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what's even cooler is that they endow you with the super-power of your choice! What is that power?
The skin of a chameleon. So that I could merge into my surroundings at any time.

You can re-live any point of time in your life. The time-span can only be a half-hour, though. What half-hour of your past would you like to experience again?
The Half hour when I watched my husband’s boat come home from the Gulf from the dockside, and then was held in his arms for the first time in seven months.

You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be?
7 years in a horrible village.

You have the opportunity to sleep with the music-celebrity of your choice. (let's say that you are both single and available) Who might it be?
Paolo Nutini, but only if he sung all night to me.  And NO smoking.  (I think that wouldn’t be possible for him, he always seems to have a fag)

Mount Olive to see my Boy!

Do you have any relatives or friends in jail?

Who's winning the U.S. Republican presidential nomination? Why?
I have no idea.  I’m not very politically motivated (apart from wanting to blow up the House of Commons,  and I know very little about US Politics.  I shall ask my son, he will have an opinion!

Who's winning the next U.S. Presidential election?
See Above.

What is the key to seduction?  My personality.

What was the weirdest thing that happened to you this week??  I took my bike to work.  Big mistake

You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late one more time you get fired. What do you do?   I save the dog.   My boss' loss not mine.

You are at the doctor’s office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. a) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? b) What do you do with your remaining days? c) Would you be afraid?  I'd think for a bit.  Wonder where I could get money on credit which would disappear when I died, and then go and LIVE IT UP, for the rest of my days.  I would tell those closest to me. And no I wouldn't be afraid.

You can only have one of these things: trust or love.  Love.

What's a song that always makes you happy when you hear it?  Zoooom.  Fat Larry's Band

Who has your cell phone number (other than family)?   Every bloody advertising buggar in the world I think.
