Friday 5

  1. What forms of media consumption do you pay for?  ... I have recently taken out a subscription to The Simple Things.  A very pretty magazine, which is of no literal value, but boy I do like looking at the craft ideas, house ideas and stuff. Its a couple of hours of escapism.

  1. When did you last read a physical newspaper?  hmmm about 4 months ago.  Its a very rare occurrence now - So much media available for free on line.

  2. What percentage of your television consumption is watched live as it’s broadcast, versus on-demand, via recording, or some other stored or streamed medium?  Almost ALL on demand recording.  The other night we watched something on commercial TV for the first time in ages, and in the ad breaks we remembered why we didn't any more

  3. What’s been the big local story in your area this week? Was there one?

  1. What is the most recent thing you regretted clicking?  A link which opened up 57 other windows, all singing all dancing...

Sail Away with Me Darling, Sail away with me now....

Dearie me. Every day, more news about more migrants.  European Countries being "Swamped" by hundreds of thousands of migrants.

Germany are stepping up and taking thousands, processing them, and applying aid as quickly as they can.

Governments say "we need to stop the flow".

Where is the flow coming from?  Syria Mostly, Afghanistan next, Kosova and then multiple African nations, including Lybia.

Why do the people in charge of these countries (not always the Government) realise that they are chasing people away from the very place they think they are establishing their power hold.   It's not working.

War migrants I have total sympathy with, economic migrants not so much - especially the ones who attempt to enter countries illegally.   If they want a better life, they should have the skills and abilities to offer the country they want to base themselves in, not turn up and demand benefits, and training.

The Secrets of Our Indiscretions past.

So, Daughter was asking me about an old Blog I used to have, and we were contemplating what I used to put on it.

It was a web page I set up while I was editing another web page for someone else, and when I had just turned 40, had a hysterectomy and given up my job.

(Did I mention I have a very tolerant husband).

She was pondering my writings, when I happened to mention this one.

She had never ever seen it before, and started in 2006... way back then.

She recounted things I had written, and forgotten about - which made me go into it today, and the first one I clicked on.....

31st December 2007....

Wonder if she reached that one :-)   LOL  She didn't mention it.

Sunday Stealing

Sunday Stealing

Name a product you buy mostly because it has a cool package.  I like to buy nice food. Not own brand... I'm attracted by Big Companies who know what they are doing.

What flavor cake do you like for your birthday?    I'm not fussed about cake - But if you are going to buy me cake, it would be Lemon Drizzle cake.

Have you ever been in love with someone much older or younger than you?    Pft no.  I love only one. My husband - who rather amazingly, I met on this very day, 29 years ago.

Have you ever had a job you loved?   I quite love my job right now.  It's a nice mix of things I know, things I'm always learning. I have a very clever boss who I've learnt loads of, I have another boss who is so chilled that he is a good reflection on me.   There are a small number of us - I've been there since there were 8.  Now there are 31.

Have you ever been in a building that was on fire?
Nope! O Oh oh  oh Yes, yes, I have.  Our very own building when we lived in Edinburgh, there were neds who prowled outside and drunk meths and sniffed glue - they dragged a sofa into the close (a communal stair) and set fire to it.  We all sat in the flat and said "what have I burnt?"   Then we opened the front door and all the smoke came in. I ran back in to call the fire brigade and Si and Boris ran downstairs with buckets and kettles.  By the time 4 fire engines, two police cars and an ambulance arrived, the fire was out.  But we had locked ourselves out the flat so the kindly fire men climbed in the window and opened the door for us.   This is the building - after we moved out - and it was "refurbished".

Are you in an argument with anyone right now?    Yes.

Would you change your hair color to something outrageous if you would get paid to?    I change my hair colour every weekend.  Last weekend it was "golden".  My friend thought I had done it for "summer".  Hmm, So this weekend I am brown.

Have you ever written a poem for someone?    Yes I have. Called More Than. Guess who I wrote it for?  I also wrote a poem for my son's teacher who was leaving school and he cried when he read it, and asked for permission to frame it.   The first line read "Steven came home from school today, what was the matter, he could not say.... "

What is a place you’ve vacationed at and would like to go back to?    Mount Olive, where my Boy Lives.  Edinburgh Where my girl lives.

Do you eat samples at the grocery store?    yes i do. Unless they are tomato.

What do you absolutely have to have to make your birthday feel special?      Nothing.  My birthday's are not of any great importance to me, I have lied so much about my age, my daughter was confused about how old I was when I met her dad.

What’s the last tourist area you visited?    Hmm, France.   Mount St Michelle

Where do you go out to eat for a special occasion?     Lido in town, or somewhere in Glasgow?

When was the last time you went to a post office?   I go quite frequently - there is a little post office near my office - it is very old.  One man works there.  Is a lovely little olde worlde place.

Is there an item you are saving up to buy right now?    Flights to 'Merica

Are you psychic in any way?    Yes.  I have a dowsing pendulum.

Do you prefer a laptop or desktop? Which are you on now?    Am on a lappy. I want to stop.  I feel my life is control by electric - laptops, smartphones, pc's.

Have you ever received a gift and truly did not know what it was?    I received a pair of granny slippers from someone i considered a friend.   They were grotesque.

What’s your homepage?

Is there a thing you enjoy doing, but quit because you are not good at it?   I'm good at everything. :-)  pah ha ha ha ha ha Banking. I wasn't good at banking.  I hated banking. Hated everyone in the bank.  I walked away.

Sunday Stealing

Taken from Sunday Stealing

Are your nails painted a dark or light color?  My big toes on both feet are painted half painted dark.  It's a lovely dark red, very schexy.  I painted all my toes for our holiday at the end of May.  I just haven't done them again and all

that's left is all that is on my toe.   I used to be quite lazy about my toes and only used to paint the bits you could see outwith my sandals :-)

Have you ever order pizza online?  Yes I have, because until recently there wasn't a pizza shop in town. So we would order on line, and then drive 8 miles to go and fetch.   They were usually always wrong :-)   Now in town we have a lovely pizza shop - Dough Pizza.  Gourmet Pizza for the connoisseur.  They are a bit lush.  So now we phone to tell them what we want, and go and collect.

What color was the last candle you lit?   It's pink, with little blue and white lumps on it.  It's called Fairy Dust, and I lit it because some disgusting fag smoker smoked walking past the house and it came in the open windows.

Is there something written on your shirt right now?    No, only the size.  I'm all in black today.  Schexy look.

Is there a bookshelf in your room?
There are several bookshelves.   We just created a wee book nook, in the dining room.  I love it, I even order decals to decorate, they say, "
If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.

Do you own a treadmill?    I don't own a treadmill, but I did hire one once - I was going to run a 10K, and hired the treadmill for practise; the hiring of the treadmill coincided with my diagnosis of asthma.  Was a complete waste of time - I keeled over every time I tried.

Have you ever signed up for a gym membership?
Yes, for a while I did.  When I worked in Glasgow I went to the gym on the way home for an hour.  Sadly the instructors were all 18 year old unemployed gals who had no idea.  One wee lady who had arrived to "thin her calves down" and ended up with bigger ones - they just had her lifting weights with her ankles, crazy bonkers.

Is there a garbage can in your room? What color is it?  Yes, it's a white bin with a white bin bag in it.

Have you ever read in the bathtub?  It used to be my favourite place to read.  Candles, lights, wine, book.  heaven.

Have you ever had to wear a hairnet?
Yes, sometimes I wear hairnets just because. :)  Nah, not really, i did buy one just for fun.  It was grand.  My hair is a big wooly mess. Hairnets are cool.

       (not a hairnet, a crown) :-)

Do you know how many pages the last book you read had?    No, about 340 I think.  When you read a kindle the pages are kind of irrelevant.

What day of the week does the laundry usually get done?
While our daughter is at home, every flipping day, I have no idea how she generates so much washing...  When we are alone (i.e., when she goes back to Uni)- Friday night! that's it!

Do you use the Facebook chat often?
Yeah, all the time, to speak to my son, he lives in "merica!

Do you have any baby pictures of yourself on your computer?
   Yeah, I do!

Do you eat onion rings?  Yes, I love onion rings - I had them last week at Handmade Burger Company. Nom nom.

What flavor of tea did you last have?  Just regular. Regular tea is my favourite, Teapigs regular tea is the very best.

Do you own a bathrobe?   No I don't - I threw it out last week.  Hmmm, Better get a new one in case I have to be presentable.

Did you/will you have coffee or some other form of caffeine today?
I have had a chilled coffee, and several cups of instant.  We don't do filtered the way you to in USA.

Do you have a mailbox or do you collect your mail from the post office?
We have a letter box.  Mail delivered once a day by lovely postman.

What was the last animal you saw, and was it a pet?   Beanie - she is my wee cat.  Beau is setting next to her; she is much bigger :0

What was the last documentary you watched focusing on?  Hmm, I feel that the world is so awful right now - I steer away from Documentaries.  I like escapism.

Is there anything you need to remember to do before the day ends?  Go to bed :-)

Is your car messy, or do you like to keep it clean?  Hmm, my daughter is driving my car just now and I cycle.    I looked in it the other day. Is a MASSIVE mess.

Are you the type to wake up before the sun has even risen?  Ha ha ha ha ha No no no - I love sleep.  I like to sleep for as long as possible.  The cats sometimes wake me up, that does not make me happy.

Do you get uncomfortable when people stare at you?  Paranoid, Yes.  Although sometimes I am just generally happy, and I know people are looking because they are jealous because they want my happiness.

Have you ever been admitted to the hospital for a long period of time?  I have been in hospital for : Mole removal in my groin... that was unpleasant, but not overnight.  Mole removal from  my face, not over night, not under general anesthetic.  that was very unpleasant.    Laparoscopy - over night. drugged. Very nice.  Tonsillectomy overnight, drugged, amazing.  Hysterectomy, drugged, overnight, and in for 5 days.  That was horrific

It was Wee Eck what done it, It was.

So one year ago, i started slowly to go out of my mind.

The spectre which haunted me was that fat face of Wee Eck.     His gloating, smug-self-satisfaction in trying to rip the British Isles asunder drove me to the point of dementia.

As a Scottish born Brit, married to an English Born brit, I have been subjected to more Anti-English racial abuse that you would believe possible.    The worst part is, that people don't even realise that they are doing it.

You are sitting in your office at work, and someone comments, "I hope those English bastards get hammered at the football today".

You are in a pub, and someone screams at the TV "Fk off English Scum if the English Football / Rugby / Cricket team come on.

Yes, I know they aren't directing it at me, I know it's bravado and "boyism", However, my husband is English and by default are my children.    I say, "My husband and Children are English", and they say "aye, but "not that type of English".

Pray tell, what other type of English are they?

To have this gloating wee git in power in Scotland, and revelling in the "uprising of the saltire" - was too much for my emotive heart to deal.   I watched, and deteriorated day by day, as I watched scum scream Yes yes yes yes at cameras, in people's faces, on TV, in the street.

"Normal" Scots, retreated into themselves; afraid to show their feelings  -  We kept our heads down, below the parapet.  Announcing you were "no" was like waving a match at petrol.   We were not allowed to say no, and at the same time we were not allowed to say anything to the yesser.  And the yessers were allowed to say what ever they wanted to, to demean the no's.
